Learn the beautiful art of Gyotaku - Japanese fish printing with local Hawaii artist Desmond Thain. In this interactive, hands-on workshop, you'll learn the basics of how to print the fish. The print is quickly made while the fish is still cool. The black print captures the details and shape on Washi paper. You'll then add color with acrylic inks. The final step includes painting the eyes to bring the fish back to life. The workshop will also consist of basic gyotaku techniques, including the do's and don'ts, tips and tricks, and how to prepare the fish so that it can still be enjoyed afterwards. Enjoy a discounted group rate for this class (normally $150), held after-hours at Pictures Plus Kaka'ako. FAQs What kind of fish will we be printing? It depends on what's biting! Desmond will catch the fish a few days prior to the event. It will most likely be manini or something similar, which is an easy beginner's fish for printmaking. The print will be done quickly while the fish is still cool, and you are welcomed to take the fish home with you after the event. Is parking available? Some parking available on-site at Coral Commercial Center. Additional parking available across the street at SALT parking garage - see rates. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No, if the name matches the registered guest, you do not need to print your ticket. However, if the name differs from the registered guest, you will need to show a ticket or proof of ticket transfer. Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? Yes, registration can be transferred to another person as long as they bring the ticket or proof of the transfer. Due to the nature of the event, no refunds provided for event registration.
